School Tours

The Southern Sinfonia regularly takes a group of players to perform at primary schools around the region. The programme is centred on fun and interactive ways for young children to enjoy classical music and get to know the instruments.

In 2006, we toured to 17 schools playing snippets of classical, popular, jazz and gypsy music styles, providing the opportunity for children to play along with the group, and to discover the more unusual noises the instruments are able to produce.

Please contact us or submit the Educational Programmes Information Request form for further details, or to register your interest in having the Southern Sinfonia visit your school.

Adult Community Education

The University of Otago, in collaboration with the Sinfonia, presents a series of lectures, one for each of the International Series concerts, to introduce the repertoire and composers of these concerts. Given by Department of Music lecturers, these are usually held from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on the Monday before the concerts.
